Hilton launches a rare Asia Pacific hotel cashback offer with American Express

Hilton and American Express have launched a new cashback deal. What is different about this one is that it isn’t for the usual European countries – it is for Asia Pacific.

You will get £50 back when you spend £200 in selected Asia Pacific hotels by 15th September. Cumulative spend counts.

Pre-paid bookings usually count despite the terms and conditions saying otherwise, but you don’t have any comeback if it doesn’t trigger.

There are participating hotels in:

  • Australia
  • China
  • Fiji
  • Indonesia
  • Japan
  • Malaysia
  • New Zealand
  • South Korea
  • Singapore
  • Thailand

Click here to see the surprisingly long list.

Interestingly, the list includes ‘participating bars and restaurants’ at each property. Whilst this is not made clear, it implies that you could spend £200 on food and drink without staying the night and still earn the cashback. Annoyingly the T&C could be clearer on this.

Two things to remember

Remember that the 2.99% FX fee charged by American Express does not count towards the £200. Because Amex does not break out this fee on your statement it is easy to get confused by how much you have spent, but any charge of – say – £205 will not be enough because £6 of this is the FX fee.

The offer will work alongside the two current Hilton Honors promotions:

  • earn 1,000 bonus Hilton Honors points per stay between 1st June and 15th August – register here
  • earn 5,000 bonus points (capped at 15,000 points) for every stay booked at a ‘Hilton for Business’ rate by 27th August – register here

Remember that you need to register for the deal via the ‘Offers’ tab in the Amex app or website. There is no guarantee that you are targeted and you are only likely to have it under one of your cards.

Great Indonesia on the list – checks Bali

Wait the Hilton, the Conrad and SLH’s aren’t on the list … only the Umana

    Checks Surabaya … nope

Oh well at least the Dipo made it.

Offer only pop-up on only 2 x cards (main and supp free BA Amex card which never been used while in Asia).

Suspiciously due to us max-out the past offers with Plat main & supp cards (4 x ALL Accor SO! Sofitel Hua Hin, 4 x VALA Hua Hin and 4 x Hyatt Regency Phuket).

    • Gordon says:

What’s you opinion of the Hyatt Regency Phuket! Are Suite and lounge offering ok.

      • Vit says:

That’s our first Hyatt stay so maybe not the most accurate view. We and the family enjoyed the free yoga session next to pool, followed by wonderful breakfast (orientated toward middle east / India subcontinent guests it seems? as it also have curry and mezze selections for breakfast, first time I saw that here in Thailand).

Albeit with GoH gift from Stephen (Thanks to @BSI1978) — we only get upgraded from basic rooms to seaview rooms so no comment on Suite. Lounge is good size with great seaview but do go early (just a bit before 5pm) as it could get really busy and you will be asked to wait for the table.

It was a good stay but feeling a bit “too big” for us. We prefer something more laid-back like Melia Mai Khao instead. 🙂

Thanks for this, I also have a few GOH’s to use, so a bit concerned about a potential no suite upgrade at this Hyatt, as going peak season, I do have other hyatt options to use them in Asia on my trip, tbh the last time I was in Thailand several years ago, we did whiteness curry at breakfast.

Also only on 2 BAPPs but not Plat.
Still, all good – both our Shanghai and Singapore hotels included for this summer!

  • Andy says:

Reading the list, it suggested to me that the incentive/cashback is only valid on checkout spend in the respective bars et al and NOT overnight stay fees … am I the only person who gained that impression ?

If stays are included then great, I was about to book an hotel in Sydney and in Nadi so using across at least two cars will work well …

  • Aston100 says:

What’s the reason not all Hilton properties in those countries are included?

    • sigma421 says:

Could be owners not wanting to participate, could be that occupancy in some areas is better than others. Could be a bunch of reasons.

Given I already have a pay when you get there booking for the Conrad Orchard Road in August, this is basically £100 of free money since my travel companion also has it on their card. Thanks Amex!

      • Michael C says:

We’re doing exactly the same: same cards, same hotel, but in July: will report back!

  • Bobby says:

I remember when that Bangkok Hilton displayed was a Sofitel that never opened due to subsidence. Lots of cracked windows and bits hanging off 🤓
