What is SailGP?

SailGP is an international competition featuring identical high-performance F50 foiling catamarans.

It launched in 2019 with six teams taking part in five races across four countries. It has grown steadily with 12 teams taking part in the current season, which consists of 13 races over 12 months running from November to November.

Each SailGP event takes place over two days. The first day has three races, while the second day has two races and a final.

Get VIP tickets via Accor Live Limitless

SailGP is expensive. Tickets for the VIP Premium Lounge are £375 each per day, so £750 for a couple.

Accor will give you TWO tickets for just 6,000 ALL points (Saturday) or 8,000 ALL points (Sunday).

For comparison, an ALL point is worth 2 Eurocents off a hotel room. You are giving up €120 or €160 of hotel rooms for £750 of SailGP VIP hospitality.

Details of the Premium Lounge are on the SailGP website here.

You get (to quote):

Your ticket includes:

  • Unrivalled views: Relax in the comfort of the Premium Waterfront Lounge and enjoy prime front-row views of the thrilling racecourse.
  • Elevated dining: Enjoy an exceptional dining experience with a high-end menu by renowned chef Ollie Dabbous, complemented by a dedicated bar with signature drinks and cocktails on offer.
  • Dedicated bar: Keep refreshed from the complimentary bar that will be serving a choice of free-flowing signature cocktails, premium beers, wine and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day. Barons De Rothschild Champagne will also be available from the bar before racing and can be purchased additionally during and after racing.
  • Champagne countdown: As the race start approaches, get ready to have your glass charged and toast the teams with Barons de Rothschild champagne.
  • SailGP hosts: Follow the action with live commentary and broadcast viewing to complement the live experience.
  • Après-Sail entertainment: Exclusive access to festivities headlined by La Folie Douce, featuring their iconic live performances and dynamic DJ sets for an unforgettable atmosphere.

The Accor tickets are for an ‘ALL reserved area’ of the Premium Lounge, but there is no indication that you do not get everything listed above.

You can find out more, and redeem, on the ALL Limitless Experiences website here.

If you want to get hold of some ALL points, there are no credit card partnerships, directly or indirectly. You CAN transfer Avios into Accor Live Limitless points via Qatar Airways Privilege Club but the rate isn’t great at 4.5 to 1 – read more here. The maths may still work for you if you are keen to get SailGP VIP tickets and don’t want to pay £750 for two people!

Seems very expensive. When they were in Sydney I went to Bradley head and watched for free. It was amazing!

    • Ken says:

Did they provide food , drink and entertainment for free ?

The model is the same everywhere- some people will pay handsomely and some will watch for free.

There is public access viewing area on Southsea common

I don’t know a lot about sailing, but can you really call a spec series “the Formula 1 of sailing”? In F1, manufacturing is as integral to the competition as anything that happens on a race weekend. America’s Cup might take the mantle on that basis. The Indycar of sailing perhaps?

  • damboy5 says:

I thought this experience would have been snapped up by now. I bought a package last night as I thought it was great value. Will have a great time regardless!

Rob, do you really think that the Accor package will give access to all the benefits listed in your article. For example, the Accor Experiences website only states a cocktail lunch being included, with no mention of the “elevated dining” your article refers to. It won’t matter to me, but will of course be most welcome if it does.

An interesting angle for HfP – perhaps running short of subject matter?

I am a sailor but within the body of sailors there are the (boy) racers to whom this type of event may appeal and the rest of us who appreciate life upon the sea. I understand a life of tranquility and gentle sailing is hard to make entertaining for the masses. My new boat arrives in December. My video blog will be so boring that no viewer will be able to stay awake.

      I have to be honest.
I have no interest in watching sailing but £100 for 2 seems amazing value.
If I lived in Portsmouth I’d do it just for a day on the lash.

      • chris says:

Totally agree, think this is a brilliant offer (and really obvious thing for HfP to promote) and definitely something I’d have considered if it was in my locale. Free food and drink doing something you wouldn’t normally do, great use of points

really surprised it didn’t go within minutes

    • Whisper2 says:

I think it’s a useful article – it is a points offer, so where better to highlight it than a points website?
I would have jumped at this if I hadn’t already booked (ordinary) cash tickets or had any Accor points!
