Good news! After a successful trial last year, American Express has brought back airport lounge pre-booking to allow you to make the most of your Priority Pass benefit.

Effective immediately, holders of The Platinum Card and The American Express Business Platinum Card can pre-book selected UK airport lounges for free.

This benefit is guaranteed to run until at least the end of 2027.

Full details are on the Priority Pass website here.

How many lounges can you pre-book?

If you have The Platinum Card or The American Express Business Platinum Card you will have received FOUR pre-booking credits which need to be used by 31st December 2025.

You need one credit per person entering the lounge, so a couple would require two credits.

For 2026 and 2027, you will receive EIGHT pre-booking credits on 1st January.

Here is an important point: unlike the trial last year, supplementary cardholders DO NOT receive their own pre-booking allowance.

How do you pre-book an airport lounge?

You need to download the Priority Pass app and register your card.

Search for a participating lounge and you will see a button which allows you to prebook.

Note that, due to an IT bug, pre-booking will not be possible for some people (including myself). You will find that, irrespective of whether you use the app or website, it is impossible to enter an email address to receive the necessary 2FA code.

What is the small print?

There are a few rules to note:

  • the primary cardholder must be one of the guests – you cannot pre-book for other people if you are not there yourself
  • you can reserve a lounge slot up to three months in advance
  • pre-booking credits do NOT carry forward if unused in any calendar year
  • a credit is counted as ‘used’ at the time of booking, not the date of your visit. If you book in December 2025 for a lounge visit in January 2026, the credit is taken from your 2025 allowance.
  • pre-booking credits will be returned if the booking is cancelled more than 48 hours before arrival. Cancellations within 48 hours of arrival, or no-shows, will result in the credit being forfeited.
  • credits will not be returned, irrespective of when a booking is cancelled, if the original booking was made in the previous calendar year (eg if you book in December 2025 for a January 2026 flight and cancel the booking after 1st January 2026, the credits will not be returned)

Am I guaranteed to be able to pre-book?

No.

Some lounges do not release pre-booking slots at peak times. This is usually when an airline has pre-booked some or all of a lounge for its own passengers.

Which lounges are participating?

This is the list of participating lounges, with links to the relevant pre-booking page on the Priority Pass website:

Plaza Premium lounges are NOT available for pre-booking via Priority Pass. This is a blow but – since No1 Lounge opened in Heathrow Terminal 2 – Heathrow Terminal 4 is the only UK airport terminal where Plaza Premium is the only independent option.

Clubrooms lounges are NOT included. This is a change from the trial last year.

HfP has reviewed most of the lounges listed above. Our index of UK airport lounge reviews is here.

Conclusion

This is a good step forward for holders of The Platinum Card and The American Express Business Platinum Card.

It’s a shame not to see Plaza Premium included, especially as it would improve capacity at Heathrow Terminal 5. With many British Airways flyers losing their Silver status next April, there will be a surge of people looking to use the two independent lounges – and only Club Aspire is available via this deal.

You can find out more about the offer – and check the current list of participating lounges, if you are reading this after the original date of publication – by visiting this page of the Priority Pass website.

Has anyone got Manchester T2 Aspire to show as a free booking? It keeps trying to charge me

  • camille55 says:

UK Centurion gets the following: –

    1. UNLIMITED complimentary lounge pre-book entitlements.
    2. For the main cardholder AND the Centurion Supplementary (either of which must be travelling).
    3. Clubrooms ARE included (@ BHX, LGW North & South, plus LHR T3)

So, a genuine additional benefit for Centurion! Nice.

Should I now cry that the x4 in 25 and x8 in 26 (via my Biz Plat), are worthless!

    • Larry says:

      there’s enough whinging in these comments… 😀

    • GMT says:

Also worth noting, along with the Club Rooms as you mentioned, the other additional lounge benefit with Centurion that doesn’t appear to be included with platinum is The Lomond Lounge in Glasgow.

    • Barrel for Scraping says:

Can you check and see if Centurion also gets access to one of the better areas of NCL Aspire?

      • GMT says:

For Newcastle it just states the Aspire lounge and going further into a dummy booking there is no further option beyond a standard admission booking for the lounge.

    • MW says:

Does it justify the extra £2500 in fees though? 🙂

  • Nick says:

Finally OTP is working, have logged in and found another problem, only have 3 pre-booking credits, not 4 stated in amex email and in the article. Not sure how they’ve messed that up. Also no availability for my dates!

  • brian says:

OTP working for me now too so I was able to use 2 of my pre-book entitlements for a family of 3 for the no 1 lounge in T2 in a few weeks time. The whole process was relatively easy. From what I can tell accompanying children don’t need pre-booking (or cash payment for non-platinum users).

8 entitlements a year and not needing to use one for an accompanying child means that this adds real value to the Platinum offering for me.

I was always optimistic that last year’s trial would lead to an offering like this so right now I’m very pleased with what that they’ve delivered. Could be the difference between me holding onto the card for a number of years versus walking away which I was considering.

    • Freddy says:

I couldn’t see any exclusions for children pre booking but I could be wrong!

      • Rob says:

I wasn’t told about one, although it could well be the case.

        • brian says:

It could easily have been a bug given others are having the opposite experience of being unable to add a child. Either way, I was able to pre-book a family of 3 using only 2/4 entitlements. During the process I kept toggling additional children and it was having zero impact on the total cost whether in cash or entitlements.

Surely it’s not location dependant as you would expect some level of consistency.

    • No longer Entitled says:

Surely if children aren’t pre-booked you are at the mercy of the lounge dragon and their capacity constraints? Fire regulations don’t exclude children so can easily envisage those not booked being denied access.

      • brian says:

Should have said there was no additional cost to pre-book a child along with two adults rather than “children don’t need pre-booking”.

Would be very harsh if my child is denied access when I’ve got a booking confirmation for a family of 3.

        • brian says:

Actually, maybe I am misinterpreting how this works and in order for the 3 of us to gain access I’d have to pay for an additional guest rather than have my wife gain access using my pre-booking but her supplementary PP card. Surely it’s irrelevant when it comes to lounge capacity.

          • camille55 says:

Datapoint: the PP lounges I have visited in Italy all allow kids upto 12y into the lounge. As in, kids upto 12y not counted as a guest. Sensible for families.

  • Steve says:

No access to vouchers for me yet. This is a really useful benefit but the issues with getting these vouchers added to accounts is really frustrating. It would probably have been better holding off announcing this until all accounts had been updated with the vouchers. I am now left with paying for a booking at Gatwick or gambling that the vouchers turn up before the capacity is met, especially as there will now be a surge of bookings for the date I had already planned to travel.

  • Freddy says:

Managed to get onto it but it wouldn’t let me put a child through using an entiltlement and wanted £6. Ive just put them through as an adult. Not that bothered anyway the liverpool lounge isn’t that great

  • The Savage Squirrel says:

This works perfectly for me – quite happy with it. Might have a couple of trips per year where want to be certain of access as early morning with family. I’ll use up the bookings then. Most of the rest of the time if I’m travelling on my own I don’t really care that much if I get in lounge or not and will quite happily just turn up and risk being turned away.

That’s probably far too positive for this comment thread 😀

    • No longer Entitled says:

By travelling with family I hope you mean, one other person.

The card allows the holder and a guest free access. It has now been enhanced to allow the holder and a guest to pre-book to ensure access. It hasn’t extend the access beyond the first guest.

  • byronlewis says:

It gets worse! I’m now getting ‘Token is incorrect or missing’ and ‘there was an error in the system’. Not really the best start to this potentially great benefit!
