ENDS TODAY: £300 United Airlines cashback offer on American Express cards

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

A generous new cashback offer is running on many American Express cards (except British Airways ones!) from United Airlines, but TODAY (8th) is your last day to book.

You will get £300 back when you spend £700 with United Airlines – a 43% rebate if you find a ticket priced at exactly £700.

You can fly direct from London Heathrow or Edinburgh. Other gateways may be available if you can get the United Airlines website to price them up with a connection. Cumulative spend is ok.

United Airlines American Express offer

The rules say that you need to book a flight by 8th August which is departing from the UK. I am guessing that non-UK departures may divert you to a different version of the United website which is why this rule is in place. It appears there is no ‘travel by’ deadline so you can book to next July.

Package holidays, cruises, lifestyle and clothing purchases from the United Shop site and purchases of miles will not trigger the bonus. Telephone bookings will not trigger the bonus.

Where can you fly with United Airlines from the UK?

Here is the current direct schedule for Summer 2025 which runs until the end of October. Other destinations in the US, Canada etc are available with connections on United or partner carriers.

London Heathrow

  • New York/Newark – 7x daily
  • Washington/Dulles – 2x daily
  • Chicago O’Hare – 3x daily
  • San Francisco – 3x daily
  • Houston – 2x daily
  • Denver – 2x daily
  • Los Angeles – 1x daily

Edinburgh

  • New York/Newark – 1x daily (2x daily in peak weeks)
  • Chicago – 1x daily
  • Washington/Dulles – 1x daily

What is United Airlines like?

We did a series of reviews with United in 2023. Here is what we published:

Where can you credit your miles?

Weirdly, you can earn Avios on United Airlines flights when you credit them to an Aer Lingus AerClub account. You can then use the ‘Combine My Avios’ functionality online (when it’s working ….) to move them to your British Airways Club account. You will not earn any tier points.

Alternatively, as a Star Alliance member, you can credit your flight to any of their frequent flyer schemes. Whilst United MileagePlus or Lufthansa Miles & More are obvious options, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer has the benefit of being an American Express Membership Rewards transfer partner if you need to top up your account.

(The HfP article looks at the best way to earn Star Alliance miles from UK credit cards. This article looks specifically at how to earn United Airlines miles from UK credit cards.)

£700 should be enough to get you an economy flight to the US in peak season – possible premium economy out of season – and £300 would represent a chunky saving.

If you are booking for two of you, see if you have the offer on another Amex card, or on the supplementary card to your main card. You can then book your tickets separately in two transactions.

As usual, you need to check the ‘Offers’ section on the Amex website or in the app for each American Express card you own, and then click ‘Save To Card’ to register if you can see the deal.

If you did not register for the offer when it launched, it may no longer be showing on your Amex cards. If you DID register but haven’t booked, today is your last day.

This is the 5th time I’ve taken up the United offer since early 2023 and I have yet to set foot onboard a United transatlantic flight. The first offer back then was for £250 cashback on a £500 flight. The following 4 offers between the latter half of 2023 and early 2025, of which I took advantage of 3 times, were for £350 on a £700 flight. All transatlantic flights I booked were from LHR to LAX and/or SFO on Lufthansa and Swiss metal only. Swiss PE is truly excellent compared to LH. I passed on the offer earlier this year because Scandinavian had joined SkyTeam so I could earn Flying Club points on transatlantic routes and were doing their usual discounted PE offer to the US. I booked a cheap fare to SFO and their PE is very good. Next month I fly to SFO again under this offer. Booked Lufthansa Boeing 747-8 flights both ways with the return sector in PE for just £707 so overall cost was £407. You won’t see me on a United flight, even if it is a direct non stop flight from London, in those cabin classes if I can help it at all.

Can’t believe I missed this ending.
Usually I get a notification from Amex of ending offers.

Would be very cautious of booking today, any that don’t go through pending stage today amex may refute the cashbacks (personal experiences)

FWIW the credit worked for me on a flight departing from Dublin ( though I think I booked it on the United UK site and it was priced in GBP , so maybe that helped )

  • Spaghetti Town says:

Didn’t seem to get this on any of my cards

  • Fellowtraveller says:

This credit worked for me booking las – ewr in the other month, went via uk site and had to add a couple of options to take it over £700 as flight was £50 short. Credit posted few days later after booking and flight was pretty good for an internal red eye

  • Skywalker says:

Offspring just used this for an open jaw booking a few days ago as there is no issue booking for a third party on the card.

“You’ve just used your offer” email came through quickly and the credit posted the same day as the transaction did.

I had a great experience on UA last year – grabbed a Premium Economy flight to the US and I loved the UA experience.

As an aside – I wish United would offer some kind of card in the UK.

  • Vit says:

Does this work with flight departing from the US but payment made in £?
