British Airways made a number of announcements about its Summer 2026 timetable this morning.

The key one, from an Avios perspective, is the extension of Bangkok.

At present, Bangkok only operates in the winter season (November to March).

British Airways extends Bangkok route to year-round

Things are stepping up considerably.

London Gatwick to Bangkok will now become a year-round route.

There will be three flights per week in the summer, departing London on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Seats opened up today for flights from the last Sunday in March until 11th August, which is the end of the current booking window.

Quite a bit of Avios availability in Club World has already gone at the time of typing (1pm Thursday) but if you want a business class redemption and are flexible on dates between May and August you will find something if you move quickly. April is already pretty much gone except for economy.

Remember that, as a Gatwick route, you are guaranteed to get the old-style yin-yang Club World seat.

The headline redemption costs are:

  • World Traveller (off-peak): 70,000 Avios + £200 return
  • World Traveller (peak): 80,000 Avios + £200 return
  • World Traveller Plus (off-peak): 100,000 Avios + £405 return
  • World Traveller Plus (peak): 155,000 Avios + £405 return
  • Club World (off-peak): 200,000 Avios + £575 return
  • Club World (peak): 220,000 Avios + £575 return

Because you would be stuck with the old business class, if you don’t have a British Airways American Express or Barclaycard voucher you will get a better quality trip by redeeming on Qatar Airways via Doha.

A Qatar Airways redemption from London to Bangkok in business class is 150,000 Avios + £645 return. (Yes, a lot cheaper than BA for a better seat!) If Qatar Airways has sold out of standard seats, there are usually ‘Flexi’ seats at double Avios cost.

We’ll do a separate article tomorrow on the other Summer 2026 route changes.

“Remember that, as a Gatwick route, you are guaranteed to get the old-style yin-yang Club World seat”

It’s not guaranteed, it’s just highly likely. That’s an important point as some people still prefer the old seat

  • yonasl says:

haha, the lack of comments either means everyone rushed to book something or was just unimpressed given the configuration of the plane.

  • Aston100 says:

What are they using? a 787-9 like on the Kuala Lumpur route?
If so, when are they going to be refurbished?

    • Aston100 says:

Well after I did a dummy booking, it shows as a 777.
I thought these were already refurbished?

      • DHA says:

Not the usual LGW aircraft, but occasionally an LHR aircraft is subbed in

      • tony says:

Only the LHR fleet. They refreshed the LGW ones as they ripped out the second CW cabin to put more W seats in, but I guess need a higher density owing to the lower yields at Gatwick.

    • Richie says:

      They won’t be using B789s.

    • Mike says:

They use very, very, very old 777s. All the ones I saw on the route were in their 20s. Very tired crappy and old. One would assume they will never get refurbished and will go to the scrapyard.

      • bee says:

It will be a 777. With the length of the flight it will be one of the G-YMM_ Gatwick based aircraft as it will need crew bunks. You do occasionally get a club suite equipped 777 at Gatwick when they need to cover maintenance but it definitely won’t be a 787 as the Gatwick crew aren’t trained to operate those.

      • Richie says:

United is the winner of the oldest planes competition, it has 32 year old B763s still operating LH routes to LHR.

      • DHA says:

I wish I was in my 20s, now I feel old

  • Dev says:

So what is the long term plan for the fleet at Gatwick… those pensionable 777s cant fly forever, and surely eventually they must get Club Suites onto Gatwick flights?

    • Nick says:

Off topic sorry, but do BA have Gatwick based long haul crew then? I assumed these routes were operated by Heathrow crew etc

      • Mike says:

They do have long haul from Gatwick, in fact, the only BA flights between the UK to Bangkok is Gatwick to Bangkok.

    • Richie says:

Gatwick will always have the oldest BA long haul planes, unless IAG acquires Norse B789s.
