The good news is that American Express has launched FOUR big sign up bonuses today, with one worth 120,000 Membership Rewards points (=120,000 Avios).

The bad news is that four sign up bonuses in one day is too many for us to cover in our usual ‘compare and contrast’ way.

This article is therefore a very short summary of the four bonuses. Separate articles today and tomorrow will look at the four deals in more detail.

My last Amex cards were Platinum (closed December 2022) and the BA Premium (closed September 2023). To maximise bonus points, can I wait until October and apply for the Nectar card, and then the gold card a few weeks later?Any minumum time to wait between applications?

    • Rob says:

You can’t do that. Needs to be Marriott or Nectar and then Platinum. Gold isn’t part of the discussion because of the Gold rules.

I doubt you’d get approved for two cards within a week or so, although you could get one this autumn and then Plat whenever a deal appears next year.

  • Sam says:

I already have a business Amex. Could I apply for another business Amex on a second company? Would it be approved and would I get the SUB?

    • Rob says:

No idea. I don’t think so because its a personal liability to you, not the company, so its effectively giving you two of the same card. Happy to be proved wrong though.

  • ffwd says:

I did and got 2 in March & April.

  • David J H says:

I took up the Platinum card offer 5-6 months ago when 100,000 points (via referral) offered for £10k spend within 6 months. I met the £10k spend requirement a few weeks ago, so contacted them yesterday via chat to be told I had not met the eligibility criteria for a welcome bonus (not an issue with my spend calculation). After I set them straight that I cancelled my last MR card (Gold) in 2021 and had only held supplementaries since (Platinum previously and currently Gold) they have sent it to back office to investigate. Anyone else had this issue or can think of any other factor that might make me ineligible? With 100,000 points/Avios at stake I am nervous !

    • David says:

The call center team don’t know the difference between their rear end and their elbow. Keep your own records and add a month or 2 on.

  • Marko says:

Been waiting for BA Amex offer, if I take this offer would that have excluded me from the bonus in previous years?

    • Rob says:

Personal Plat and Personal Gold will exclude you from a bonus on the free BA card. They do NOT exclude you from a bonus on the BAPP card.

  • idontfly says:

whats the best way to find out the last time i had an amex?
