News in brief:

Hilton offering England v Wales tickets

As we have covered a few times in recent months, Hilton Honors has signed a comprehensive sponsorship deal with both Wembley Stadium and the Football Association.

This is ensuring that a steady stream of tickets for Wembley events (not just football) and England football games (not just Wembley ones) are appearing.

Tickets for the England v Wales friendly on 9th October are now available.

There are five pairs of luxury hospitality tickets being auctioned. These are for The One Twenty Club, the highest level of hospitality available. The minimum bid is 100,000 points per pair and I suspect they won’t go for much more.

An additional pair of VIP tickets is being auctioned along with a night at Hilton Wembley which is next to the stadium. The minimum bid is 150,000 Hilton Honors points and there are no bids as yet.

Calcot Manor now bookable via Hilton, for cash or points

Calcot Manor, now known at Calcot & Spa, is a boutique hotel in the Cotswolds, around three miles from Tetbury.

It is well known as an upmarket weekend break destination, similar to Cowley Manor Experimental which we reviewed last year.

Calcot & Spa has just been added to the list of Small Luxury Hotels properties which are bookable via the Hilton website.

This means that you can book rooms for cash via hilton.com – and earn Hilton Honors points and elite night credit – or redeem Hilton Honors points.

Elite members of Hilton Honors (Gold and above) will receive free breakfast and space-available upgrades when booking via hilton.com. Other elite benefits such as (non-guaranteed) late check-out do not apply on SLH bookings.

Redemptions are 110,000 points per night. As well as tiny ‘Cosy’ rooms, the larger ‘Comfort’ rooms are included. These cost £465 over most weekends, from what I can tell, so you are getting 0.42p per Hilton point. This is better than our target Hilton valuation of 0.33p per point.

You can find out more on this page of the Hilton website.

InterContinental Singapore closing?

The InterContinental hotel in Singapore (the old one on Middle Road, not the new InterContinental Singapore Robertson Quay) appears to be leaving IHG.

A comment on Flyertalk said that the hotel had been sold and that the new owners would be switching brands. I can’t find anything online to confirm this – so nothing seems certain – but a search on ihg.com shows that no rooms are currently available after 1st January 2026.

To add to others positive memories, IC bugis was my first long haul stay, in a ‘shophouse suite’ if I remember correctly. Great place.

  • David S says:

Shame. We stayed there on our last trip and enjoyed it but couldn’t find it for a Feb 26 booking. I found it surreal going out of its rear entrance and the first thing you see is the Liverpool FC store

    • LD27 says:

Haha. We thought the same first time we saw it. My son thought it was great as he supports Liverpool.

  • Peggerz says:

With my wife and kids there in 2009. First experience of an IC and with the lack of knowledge I now have, got 2 base rooms that must have been upgraded even though I had no status etc. loved this hotel, just haven’t made it back to SIN since.

  • Philip says:

More love for the IC Singapore. We’ve stayed there a few times and always loved it. You can access most of Singapore quickly and efficiently, the service was tremendous, and we thoroughly enjoyed late night swims to cool down in the roof top pool.

    Hopefully this news is mistaken.

  • Peter says:

I stayed at the IC in March and other than finding a cockroach in the bathroom in the middle of the night it was a good stay. They offered 5000 points as an apology as well

  • Bloomy says:

Noooooo! Stayed at the IC Singapore last February, awesome lounge, rooms great too…. Will be missed! 😢

  • DavidB says:

This has been my regular on many visits to Singapore given its location and character. As noted, the ShopHouse rooms are a delight. Stayed once at the Robertson quay IC but found it rather sterile and not that well located. I still have an aluminum bookmark Ambassador gift from my first visit just after it opened in the design of its illustrated streetscape. Will miss the place unless it’s reflagged under one of my other elite status hotel groups.

Asked when we were checking in this afternoon, and the staff said they weren’t leaving IHG. However, Rob may have other more accurate sources, and the front desk staff may not necessarily be fully updated yet.

    • Rob says:

No, I’m only going off a Flytertalk report and the inabilty to book beyond 1st January. No-one from IHG has been in touch today so say that we are wrong though.

    • Dace says:

Let’s hope this is correct. Tbh, if they refurbished this place they could move to the Regent brand. That is just me speculating however.
