Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Golf clubs as silver member?

If I book a flight with avios on BA can I take my golf clubs as 1 piece of luggage plus a hold case as a silver member?

@shilly yes a golf bag on BA simply counts as an extra piece of luggage. It’s well worth getting a large sturdy canvas type outer golf bag with wheels into which you can also stuff quite a lot of awkward stuff like shoes and wash bags; tried and tested.

@JDB thanks for that as I wasn’t sure if golf clubs were classed as 1 of the bags, will definitely cram as much in as possible!!!

At the risk of stating what may be obvious to some, it’s not just golf clubs that this applies to – any sporting equipment is fine.

For me that means a bike box these days, although I often used to travel with skis before I became fussy enough to want to keep changing my equipment depending on the weather and my itinerary for the day. And, unlike some other airlines, BA is very relaxed if you stuff your sports equipment bag with non-sporting gear up to the weight limit. I’ve known of people being surcharged for that with LCCs.

Just reopening this as wanted to check this also applies to flights from LCY – I’m not silver but will be flying CE which I assumes grants the same priveleges even on Cityflyer/Embraer?

(I’m aware the benefits of CE from LCY aren’t as great, but the the Avios cost is the same as the cash for ET)

@Olly yes it applies. I flew BA CE LCY-ZRH in January with a huge ski bag and a suitcase, the ski bag just counted as one of my two checked pieces of luggage and was dropped off at oversized baggage after I checked in. BA are very flexible – as @jj says, they don’t care how much non-sporting stuff you shove in around your actual “equipment”!
