Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Marriott Bonvoy Offers on Amex Bonvoy Card?

  • SJ 47 posts

    Morning.

New to Marriott card, activated less than a week ago. There aren’t any offers showing up yet. Experience with other Amex cards has been of offers appearing within a few days. Got a Marriott hotel booking to make soon.

What are other people’s experience of offers on this card? Should I wait for offers to appear, or are they unlikely to have discounts/bonus points on bookings?

    Thanks

My bonvoy card took a week or so for offers to ping onto it, use it a couple of times, that may help.

Offers wise on Marriott hotels it’s been quite good. In the last year, had a couple of spend £250 get 100 back, and also had spend £200 get 75 or 50 back, and those are ones that you don’t get on other Amex cards for Marriott.

If your a Marriott stayer a lot, I found the break even point for the £75 fee on hotel spend alone, vs spending on another Amex card and transferring those points to Marriott, would be £3333, any hotel spend after that and the card is better value, that’s just on hotel spend only.

Also, if you have another half, get them a supplementary card, you’ll get 3000 points for getting them the card, plus, they will get all the extra Marriott spend offers I mentioned above, and you can use their card and get the offers twice.

Stick it out. I’m seeing lots of good offers on the wife’s Marriott, arguably better than the ones cropping up on her Gold.

However, don’t expect them to be geared towards Marriott – very rarely do they have discounts or bonus points on bookings. In fact, if I recollect correctly, I’ve seen better Marriott hotels cashback offers on the Gold than the Marriott card (the Gold generally gets some good hotel cashback offers).

No, not true, for the last year or so Marriott has deliberately done better Marriott cashback offers on the Bonvoy Amex than on other Amex cards.

Of course, you won’t be seeing Hilton or IHG offers there so its a trade off.

However, if you do stay at Marriott then it is probably now possible to cover the £75 card fee with the ‘extra’ cashback you receive over and above what a Plat, Gold or BA Amex cardholder sees – which is probably the plan.

Last October, for eg, it was ‘£100 back on £250’ for Bonvoy Amex cardholders and ‘£50 back on £200’ for everyone else.

Yeah the Marriott offers on the Marriott card have been better than Marriott offers on other Amex cards.

Holding the bonvoy card for almost a year. Offers have been few and crap mostly. Havent had a Marriott offer so far yet. Will continue to hold to keep Bonvoy points live and hoping some good offers come along to compensate the fee.

In contract, nectar card has received almost all offers that are usually discussed on this forum.

Thanks for your replies. Had already sent some spending through the card to see if anything appeared. Will see if anything turns up over the weekend before booking.
