Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Champagne in European business class – who else has it?

  • PB2 198 posts

BA continue to serve champagne in Short Haul European business class, and in their Club lounges albeit on request. Who else serves Champagne in SH business in Europe, except Finnair and (I’m guessing) Air France?

    Iberia – no
    TAP – no
    Air Europa – no
    Lufthansa – no

Who serves a drinkable sparkling wine?

    I most certainly do!

I would rather have a good sparkling wine than a cheap champagne

Iberia serve pretty decent Cava and Lufthansa do (or did pre-Covid) very pleasant Sekt. I’d take both over the cheap champagne that BA serve in Club Europe.

What’s the decent cava served by Iberia? It’s been pretty awful stuff whenever I’ve flown with them.

I think BA should get some credit here. It may be lower end champagne but it is still certainly a step up from eg Iberia in my experience.

Used to be reasonable Codorniu stuff, much more drinkable IMO.

Iberia serve better cava in the lounge than on board in my experience – off topic but on Saturday they were serving a lovely Ribera del Duero in the MAD Schengen lounge – the same I’d been served in BA First (onboard) before covid!

I flew Lufthansa business twice recently – very nice “German sparkling wine”, but didn’t get any more info than that.

I agree that a cheap champagne is by no means better than a good cava that perhaps retails for just £15-20, but it is an indication of investment in the business product by an airline. For this reason many airlines that don’t in SH, do bring out the champagne for long haul.

Back to SH though – within Europe, looks like Finnair edge it with their decent Perrier Jouet (never flown Air France to compare). Four long flights with Finnair in Europe recently and they never ran out either!

Well I’m in LHR T5 now and they’ve run out of champagne!! It’s not even particularly busy nor a peak travel date….!!!
The staff member told me this is 3rd or 4th time this week- run out by 2pm 🤔

Yikes – maybe they should have it on draft like the Escape lounge at MAN (though I think that might be Lambrini) 😂

On my first visit to the CCR in 2019 an American lady went to the bar and asked for a glass of Prosecco. The bartender looked slightly appalled and replied, “We don’t serve Prosecco, madam, only Champagne.”

@anirishgirl2022 That’s not good….Was there on Tuesday afternoon – South Lounge and T5B were fine. As long as they have champagne in the Concorde Lounge two weeks time, the wife will be happy 🙂
