I’ve never felt unsafe in Berlin, to be honest.
You MIGHT want to stay around Potsdamer Platz (Grand Hyatt good, Ritz Carlton, probably the best Marriott in the world). Postdamer Platz, for better or worse, is brand new shiny corporate architecture, about as sleazy as Canary Wharf, and they won’t feel in any way unsafe.
Also a modest walk to Checkpoint Charlie etc and as the wall ran through PotsPlatz there is some historical stuff there too.
