If you were flying back a day either side you could have got CW or WTP, it must be a very popular date! Could you fly back on the morning of the 27th if there’s availability on the day flight and get a late connection to EDI? Is your wife going to EDI as well, I assume that’s what you mean?
TBH. it’s such a short hop back you’re not going to get much sleep in any cabin. I think your only other option is to try and get a cash upgrade at check in if there’s any space in the cabin.

* Remember as well, people cancel all the time so you could set up an alert with Seat Spy.

Another option if you’ve got the cash – book Y out and J back and pay your company the difference?
