    Hello all
Looking for advise with a work trip to NYC that has been sprung on me.
Essentially its 23-26th May, bUt I am doing a marathon attempt on Sunday 29th. It is my 2nd attempt so worrying I will not be rested.
Work policy is Economy only, though I can buy (self upgrade) an upgrade. There is no incoming Reward availability.
I land 27th in the morning and then fly to EDI that evening.
I live about an hour away, and either way need to collect my wife, so the return to Heathrow has to be done.

Are there any clever ways, I can upgrade to business on the night flight? Or is just down tot he luck of the draw and possible upgrade options nearer the time.

Thanks. Dreading the marathon enough, without this trip been added.

If you were flying back a day either side you could have got CW or WTP, it must be a very popular date! Could you fly back on the morning of the 27th if there’s availability on the day flight and get a late connection to EDI? Is your wife going to EDI as well, I assume that’s what you mean?
TBH. it’s such a short hop back you’re not going to get much sleep in any cabin. I think your only other option is to try and get a cash upgrade at check in if there’s any space in the cabin.

    * Remember as well, people cancel all the time so you could set up an alert with Seat Spy.

Another option if you’ve got the cash – book Y out and J back and pay your company the difference?

If an upgrade isn’t possible could you either stay another night in NYC then get day flight home the next morning. The day flight isn’t so bad down the back!
Or if you have enough time book a day room a LHR to get some sleep in between flights?

As Northernlass says its not like theres much time to sleep on the night flight back anyway – our last one was 5.5 hours!

I would either try do the day flight or the earliest possible flight so you land v late NYC time according to your body clock and then go to a hotel for a day room and sleep until lunch. I used to do this pretty much weekly for a good while and these are the methods I found best. Even in biz you don’t get much sleep, these are very short flights!

    Hello.
thank you for your replies, I do appreciate it.
I am talking with my boss as well. I might be able to leave earlier on Thursday, which may help.
I wouldn’t even mind as long as I had a spare seat next to me. I know I know, too much to ask 😉

essentially in two weeks time period
    LHR – NYC – LHR – Home (8 – 10 hrs) LHR – EDI – LHR – AGP – LHR

I’d probably try and turn things around a bit.

Fly Lon to EDI on 22nd. Then fly EDI-NYC-EDI

    Or fly LHR-NYC-EDI

Both United and Delta fly Direct to Edinburgh. I *much* prefer arriving at EDI on a transatlantic than LHR.
