I reckon a different agent, or the pricing team, should have been able to come up with a different result, as Iberia’s site will show a flight back into MAD with onward connections to LHR and GLA at a sensible price.
I don’t think you’ve lost out though with a standalone flight, you’ll use a few more Avios from not using the 241 but offset by lower RFS surcharges, roughly cost neutral.
