If I go to a wedding, I don’t have a choice of food. If I go to a black-tie event, I rarely have a choice of food. If I go to a friend’s house for dinner, I don’t have a choice of food. If I share small plates with colleagues, I don’t generally have a choice of food. If I eat in my local Michelin starred restaurant, I don’t have a choice of food. If my wife is cooking dinner, I don’t have a choice of food unless she’s trying to soften me up for some reason.

So, to be honest, I consider any choice of food to be a small bonus when sat in a metal tube isolated from shops, chefs and kitchens.

I understand religious and medical restrictions, and airlines cater for those. Beyond that, if I don’t like the food that’s offered, I recognise that’s my failing and regard it as one of life’s learning experiences.

It’s a very good point, but when you go to a friend’s house, black tie, wedding etc. EVERYONE is served the same. As soon as some element of choice comes in (as it does on planes) people soon become aggrieved if someone else has, what they would have preferred.

I also take JDB’s point, before the Internet we all survived and adapted… but things have changed. We all have so much more information available to us as a result which for SOME (including myself) allows us to pre-plan all sorts of minor details of our trip. Appreciate this often ends in disappointment, but some of us get enjoyment out of the planning and anticipation!

Finally, @rakesh, I hope you enjoy your trip. It sounds like it will be a special one and I like @jj’s idea if reporting back 5 highlights rather than the gripes.
