Surely it makes for much quicker disembarkation if your carry-on bag is under the seat in front? If I only have a small one I’ve even been known to select a non-exit row seat so the bag is at my feet ready to grab and go on landing! But I have short legs so don’t need to put my feet under the seat.

I’m not tall either but I could get quite panicked if I couldn’t stretch my legs out under the seat in front. It’s a small piece of humanity I feel isn’t unreasonable to expect on board.
