I have no knowledge of La Zabra, however when my children were teenagers we went to La Manga club 4 times. It’s a bit like being in a nice part or Surrey but with good weather. Please bear in mind this information is historic.

We always booked a villa with a private pool and gardens, which means you can have a quite self contained holiday if that is your thing. Getting my son off his playstation when in a luxury villa with large pool on tap was quite a challenge, until we mentioned eating out of an evening, so by default we managed to get him to absorb some Spanish culture.

As it is the oldest and probably the most prestigious of the golf resorts, all the plantings, landscaping, flora and fauna are mature, which makes it a very pleasant green place to be if you want to wander about the actual club itself.

If you wish to go further afield you will need a car, or maybe rely on taxis for a few days out.

If you wish to be in Spain, it’s just around the corner, there is Los Belones, Pabo de Calos, the small but beautiful city of Cartagena approx. 20 mins in a car & you can drive to Murcia in about an hour which we did to visit the Cathedral and the City itself.

There are good restaurants about, La Rusticana which is kind of on the outskirts of the club, as is La Canela, Via Romana in Los Belones and there was a good meat restaurant there whose name I have can’t remember. In Pabo de Cabos there are a few restaurants clustered around the water. El Faro, El Ranchero & the Miramar spring to mind. The club itself has loads of restaurants from fine dining to fast food.

My only reservation is with such young children, is that you might pay through the nose for a lot of facilities you will not use, like the golf and the tennis (all extra), plus it might feel too English for you.

At the time we did this it really suited us as a family and we had great holidays there.
