Hi all
The Platinum New Member 100k offer. Is there any way to get any benefit as a Referrer of this?
The Refer a Friend website does not give the new member 100k.
Thanks
Are you sure?
For me, the referral offer shows as 80,000 after meeting the £10,000 spend in 6 months and then an additional 25,000 with £50 spend in month 15 of membership (so 105,000 overall). For the referral, I would get 18,000.
I see same as RK in Amex app. 80k points for friend, 18k for me.
Your friend will receive
80,000
Membership Rewards® points when they apply for the Platinum Card®, are approved and spend £10,000 in their first 6 months of Cardmembership and an additional 25,000
Membership Rewards points if they spend any amount within month 15 of Cardmembership.
Offer ends 9 January 2024. New Cardmembers only, T&Cs apply.
All participation subject to Referral
The 100k headline offer is actually split as 75k after spending £10k and 25k after 15 month card membership. So the referral is 5k higher. If you read about the 100k offer in detail you should agree with me.
It’s quite odd that they structured this latest ‘best ever’ SUB in this way, so slanted towards Year 1 and no split referral. If someone in a household refers, you can get 98k after £10k spend and get a pro-rata refund beyond February it now seems. The incentive to continue paying the Y1 fee plus Y2 fee to reach the Y2 25k second tranche SUB is really very limited.
It feels rather a costly error of judgment by Amex as there will inevitably be a certain number of people collecting the 98k MR plus £600 dining credits + £100 HN for maybe £175 in pro-rata annual SUB plus a few FX fees.
It could have been done so much more smartly, so they rather deserve whatever they get taken for.

How do you get to 98k? I get this:
80k MR pts for spending £10k
10k MR pts for spending £10k
5k MR pts for adding sup card
18k referral if the referral is one of your players and refer from plat card
I get 113k pts or 95k if not including referer.
@Reney – I was just going for the most basic 80+18 but neglected to include the actual spend MR plus SUPP which makes their cunning plan even more absurd.
Just a slight smell of desperation. I doubt it will get them anywhere, but constantly upping the bungs appears to be the sole strategy and doesn’t really help the dwindling existing cardholder base.
If they do actually remove pro-rata refunds, what will the next big SUB offer be? 125/150/200?
