Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club 2-4-1 booking cancelled – should I get the voucher back with extended expiry?

  • 11 posts

I had a 2-4-1 companion booking for flights in April 2020. The voucher had expiry August 2020. After cancelling for a FTV then booking again a further 2 times I had to cancel the voucher as my father can no longer travel and was the linked person. The avios and cash element were refunded but the vucher is no where to be seen. Should this not have come back to me with the extensions that have been applied to non booked voucherha I have flights booked for March and would have used for these. Thanks

Once you get a refund for the various elements of the FTV, the 241 voucher is returned to you with its original expiry date, including any specific extensions you had. The FTV keeps the 241 ‘alive’ inside that structure and then in any subsequent booking or further FTV, but does not extend the voucher to Sep 2023. Thus, once refunded, the voucher may just disappear if it was past its expiry date

JDB is correct, 241 vouchers are only extended to Sep 23 if they are part of a FTV. I think you’ve probably lost your voucher, unfortunately.

Hello – thank you. I thought that was the case 🙁 seems unfair that vouchers that were not in a booking got extended but if the voucher was part of a booking that was cancelled those revert to the original due date. Gutted to be honest as had saved for ages to get enough avios and the companion voucher.

If your voucher was due to expire in August 20, then even with several extensions it would probably have expired by now. You should be able to see used/expired vouchers in your BAEC page under ‘More voucher information’ – if you can actually log in to BA!

I really feel for you – are you in a position to re-apply for BAPP (and possibly get a sign-up bonus?), or perhaps your future travelling companion is? It’s quite easy to trigger the 241 in a few months even if you’re a modest spender (lots of good ideas on HFP), so if you’ve already got enough avios for the trip you’re planning, you might still be able to do it relatively soon.

I have a different experience to the ones above – I’m in a similar situation and asked for a refund and expected to lose my 241 voucher which was originally issued in 8 Sept 2018, but it was returned to me with an expiry date of 8 March 2022. This was only 2 weeks ago, so I think you should have had voucher back to use

I think what you say is consistent with the above comments that the voucher is returned to your account with its original extended date, whatever that was in each individual case. If your voucher was issued on 8 Sep 2018, originally expiring in Sep 2020, but with three six months extensions it was extended to 8 March 2022. The original question on here referred to a voucher expiring in August 2020, so logically issued earlier than yours, otherwise it would have had an original expiry beyond Aug 2020. I think the point was simply that the FTV does not, per se, change your voucher expiry date but just has that effect while it sits in an FTV or the post FTV booking.

I am not sure if there were formally two or three 6m extensions, but BA was, on request, offering them individually before there was a generalised policy, so that one did effectively get three extensions in some cases.

Thanks everyone it looks like everyone has a different experience. Currently in my BAEC i have no vouchers detailed either expired or used so i am not sure what that means. I will try and e mail and see how that works out but yes if mine was issued a month earlier than lollyfry it may still be expired. But this has helped me thank you everyone.

Gillian – go into your Executive Club page and on the left you should have a few options to click on, including e-vouchers. When you open this, it should show the your voucher with its expiry date and the booking it was used for.

Yes, I agree – what I meant to say was that if the voucher originally had an expiry date from 10th -28th August 2020 (I don’t think that actual date in August was given?) then it technically should be still available to use this month and so should be available to view in Gillian’s BAEC account at this stage? If if had an expiry prior to 9th August then agree that it has expired now
