Left it a little late to use my voucher for next Feb/March, not a huge choice of destinations left with seats in First/CW.
Don’t want to go to the US as we’re there later this year, leaves Bahrain/Qatar/Saudi Arabia/Kuwait/Ghana/Nigeria. Will just be for a week, probably end of Feb (before Ramadan starts).
Any thoughts, leaning towards Qatar but happily be convinced otherwise!
Do you feel lucky and are you happy to be flexible outside of USA? If you leave it to a few days before travel then all sorts of normally hard to get things can open up. If nothing amazing opens up at that point then can always “abort” to using the voucher short haul where something nice in southern Europe will surely be available …
Alternatively could take a US redemption and use it as a starting point for onward travel?
As above, there are loads of opportunities for connecting from the US – including using avios on AA.
SeatSpy is showing MEX, SAO, PVG, TLV as well as others roughly around your dates. Also, if it’s a new-style voucher you should be seeing extra availability in CW to some destinations, though you’ll have to search individually for these.
Also plenty of seats to BDA, where the weather should be pleasant and accommodation prices lower than in peak summer season.
Yes using SeatSpy, however only realistically have a week so MEX, SAO probably a bit far.
Don’t forget you can also use it on Iberia which gives you a lot of South American options and also Dakar in Senegal.
NAS/GCM? I wouldn’t go just for a week but plenty of people do. Weather should be glorious. Not sure why you’re not seeing all these options or are you just not interested?!
The great thing about Iberia and South America is that with most destinations you arrive on the same day and can quickly go to sleep which means you can start the holiday the next day and also the flights back are overnight giving you the final full day.

NAS for instance only has 1 flight back on a Sunday until the end of March. GCM similar. Ideally would leave on a friday evening and come back on a Sunday so we’re not using so many work holiday days. GCM could be an option if we went end of March though.
Ah – BA flights going west don’t usually work like that. Unless you’re on a route with a lot of services per day, like NYC, you’ll fly out in the morning or early afternoon, and in the inbound will depart late afternoon or evening. Caribbean destinations only have 1 flight per day all year round, I don’t know how you’re seeing more than that from next March.
Also – Friday and Saturday departures tend to be the most popular on many routes which will deplete the award inventory even further, for the reasons you cite!
