Hi,
With the new rules on 2-4-1 voucher it’s no longer required to start in the UK. But would open jaw rules apply?/Example:
I booked Zakynthos to London
Expecting to book London to PortoDo you think this would be feasible?

You need to check the distances; the open jaw/surface distance (i.e. in this instance ZTH-OPO) cannot be greater than either flight.
But in this case, the starting point is not in the UK, so, will those rules apply?

Standard IATA fare construction rules apply irrespective of the starting point. Your proposed routing ZTH-LON-OPO is either a one way journey if it falls within the MPM, but if you are planning a stopover in London, it’s either two one ways (not allowed) or an open jaw IF mileage allows.
I think OPO to ZTH is 1586 miles, vs LON to ZTH 1382 miles and OPO to LON 807 miles so the open jaw is greater than both flights, thus not allowed.
Also – not exactly clear from the post but the new rules only apply to 241s earned from September last year, so don’t apply to older vouchers which are still valid (of which there will still be a lot around, of course).
My own view is that if the itinerary is bookable as a standard redemption then the post-September 2-4-1 voucher can be applied irrespective of start point. That said, until we have definitive confirmation it’s also fair to acknowledge that to some extent the jury is out on the point.

I think you are correct, but I have a sneaking suspicion that if people start getting too cute with their routings, BA will tighten the conditions.
You need to look for Zakynthos to Porto as one RT. It should be possible, but not sure about the schedule aligning so it requires a stopover in London. You can do a long stopover as that doesn’t attract extra costs as it short-haul (also good use of voucher to get 2, well 1.5 trips)
Best bet is to look at legs separately then try to do search with exact dates. BA system for this is so clunky and throws all sorts of errors or lets you to the final stage before booking then errors out on surcharges.
In any case, I think that for the time being some open-jaws will still require a call.
@JDB True true. I’ve given enough clues already, so I think I should stop.
