Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help 20 June BA206 MIA – LHR Cancelled

  • AndrewA 7 posts

    Good morning.
Apologies for the very long post.
I am looking for some advice re claiming back our expenses and also starting a compensation claim.
We received a text around 4am on the morning of our return flight stating it had been cancelled. Our final destination was Edinburgh. After a 35 minute phone call with BA we managed to get re-routed flying FLL – PHL – LHR – GLA on the 21st June. There were no available spaces on the final leg to EDI so had to take GLA. We arrived in Glasgow 24 hours later than we should have. Our luggage hasn’t arrived yet but it is supposed to be delivered to us today, 24 hours after we arrived home.
I have receipts for Taxi to Fort Lauderdale, hotel accommodation and food.
My question is do I submit two separate claims, one for the expenses and one for EU261 ?
If so are both submitted to BA through their website?
For info these were Avios flights in business booked using a companion voucher. The first return leg from FLL – PHL using AA was flown in economy as we had to be put on standby for an earlier flight as the one booked for us by BA was delayed and we would have missed our LHR flight. All in all a total mess!

As a footnote my wife received a text yesterday from flightclaim with a link to a compensation website. Surely there is a data breach somewhere as this can’t be right.

    Thanks in advance
    Andrew

In regards to your wife’s email: does she use travel tracking websites like Kayak or similar? This is where your contact details may have been shared with a 3rd party.

You should be able to make a single claim for expenses and compensation, depending on the reason for the cancellation. Do you know why the flight was cancelled?

You might be able to claim a downgrade reimbursement, but that would be for a small amount if anything.

There’s a thread on Flyer Talk about the ‘leaking’ of potential claims info for BA flights

The aircraft G-XLEH was re-allocated to operate to DFW instead of MIA on the 20th. My guess is A380 tech problems.

BA are certainly having problems with some of their A380s.

BA207 landed back at LHR 6 hours after take off yesterday. Most of that time was spent circling south of Ireland to burn fuel.

Does anyone of teccy knowledge know why BA are having so many tech problems with thier A380,s?

During the last 14 flights LHR-MIA almost everyday a significant delay. 2 cancellations and yesterday’s return to LHR after 5 hours in the air.

It’s been asked and answered a lot on FT if not here. Essentially the A380s did not like the pandemic storage and have been plagued with small issues. Many of these involve supply chain issues on replacement parts. BA schedule the A380 arguably with unrealistic expectation of availability for the fleet size they operate.

With B777/A350/B787 there more wriggle room to sub in a different plane, but the A380 capacity means less opportunity to replace, and more likely to need to replace.

It all comes down to the same thing as many current BA issues, a timetable they don’t have the resources to operate.

I would do this as separate claims – one for compo and one for duty of care.

They get put into separate work flows and duty of care seems to get paid much quicker than actual compensation.

As to the text email the BA data protection office about it. The more contacts they get might help them identify who is passing the details on to this company.

I did a claim on Sunday through ba.com, the form wants everything on one form.

Thank you. Certainly seems BA’s operation cycles of A380 is unrealistic now my MIA-LHR return tomorrow is cancelled. Can anyone advise is flying AA MIA – LHR that can use any AA check in desks at MIA so I can check in early? I know with the NbA flight they only open check in, 3 hours prior to flight time, but of course AA operating multiple flights from MIA.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I’m going to put both claims in today. I will also email BA about the data breach.
