American Express are offering a 30% transfer bonus to Virgin points until the 21st November
Which sucks as you will need 40% more virgin miles for the same trip when dynamic pricing comes in at the end of the month.
Is this US based Amex? Just tried to transfer from my UK Amex and no bonus showing.

It won’t show. Amex refuses to promote it.

A good dilemma: I’ll need to do some VS redemptions in January. and I have enough VS miles for their “current” chart.
Should I transfer my MRs to VS just in case, or save them for the elegant BA!Allows a membership rewards indirect transfer into IHG with 0.52p value. Pointless given you can get 0.5p via Nectar etc anyway. Would be different if still counted towards tier level.
https://www.virgin.com/virgin-red/american-express? That’s showing the promo
Transfer process is now working OK – I’ve done a trial to test it. 30% bonus goes on instantly.

Of course, I’d missed the end date of the bonus.
It states that it transfers it into Virgin Atlantic points as opposed to into your Virgin red account. Would this cause issues if you then tried to redeem it for one of the Virgin voyages offers for example

Why would they refuse when they usually do promote bonuses (eg the recent hotel group)
just did a trial transfer of 1000 MR and as Rob said transfer arrived immediately with 1300 points. I am going to speculatively book next year tickets for parents to Atlanta. A 30% discount is good and if we get a better offer under the new rules in November we can always cancel.
So I took the gamble and transferred 212000 MR via virgin red.
It worked!
Now, let’s hope the 30 Oct change is not at bad as we suspect. I’m retired, so we have date options but I’m still not optimistic. On the upside,I guess they would end the promo on30 Oct if it was all bad…!

Both accounts are the same pot

Wow, that was quite a gamble!
If you weren’t planning to make a redemption before 30th October, it would probably have better to wait until after the changes are announced, as the transfer bonus will still be running a short while longer.
I have about 120k MR points lying on my Amex, what are the opinions from folks about transferring it to Virgin points to take advantage of the 30% bonus, can the points be spent at a higher value in any other ways?

I wouldn’t transfer without a redemption in mind, given the new dynamic pricing but if you can find somewhere you want to go at the new ‘saver’ rates, you could get a fantastic deal. I saw Dubai in March 2025 for 65k Virgin points plus £765 for UC return on the A330-neo (although risk they could swap the plane), so it would only cost 50k MR.

Thanks! I do have a couple of trips planned for next year (dates still to be finalized), so I’ll be able to redeem points, though it’s always a bit tricky during school holidays. That said, I was wondering if there might be better value options for using my MR points—perhaps something that offers more value than converting them to Virgin points.
