Very much a first world problem, got a taxi from our hotel at 4:30 security is a breeze. Experience somewhat spoiled by finding that the lounge BA use doesn’t open until 6:00. I’m only in Club Europe as we are on a tier point holiday and this has taken the shine off a little.
BA have sent me plenty of emails before this flight it might have been good to be transparent about this.
In other news Athens was great, good weather and even BA holidays cheapest hotel was fine. City generally was inexpensive for a European capital eg equivalent of a 1 day travel card excluding the airport 4.10 euros. Visited Mahi Mahi twice great food at modest cost. It was warm enough to have lunch at the beach on several days, this was easy to access by tram.
Also worth a shout out for a great pizza place Romatella an easy walk from the Acropolis.

Yes, this is a new issue, but obviously not BA’s fault. It’s even worse for the Goldair (priority pass) lounge next door, which opens at 7am during winter! This was never a problem before as the old lounge (which shut last month) was always open from 5am onwards.

I was there a couple of weeks ago and there was a queue for it to open at 6 on the dot. They also trickled bringing out all the food offerings over 30-45 minutes, so not everything was ready upon opening.

See whether it reverts back to 5am…!

Just to update you, I pinged BA about this, disappointed etc. Got 10,000 Avios each, result.
