Hello,
Due to fly to Vegas next week in CW with BA, baggage allowance is 2 x 32kg for each of us. But we’re also going to be flying American for when we fly to different states.
As I’m BAEC Silver (my partner isn’t). She should still get the benefits right since both of us are on the same booking? (With American)
If so, the next question I have is, ideally we just want to take the 1 hold luggage each. But since BA allow 2 x 32kg each and AA only allow 2 x 23kg each. What happens if we both took 1 hold luggage that was 30kg?
Would they still accept it (60kg out of the 92kg), or are they quite strict?
We want to try and avoid taking more than 1 case each if possible. Thank you in advance.
I think it might be to do with health and safety as to how readily airlines will casually accept heavy bags. But equally I could be talking out of my behind.
Up to 100 pounds/45KG for an extra fee. Over that they’ll say no.

Which would be $100 per bag.
What you could do (depending on how much you are taking), is pack a tote bag and if you have a solid piece of hand luggage, check the hand luggage as your third bag for the internal flight and take your carry on necessities in the tote.
Not ideal but should give you another 10kg or so to play with.
We like a quiet life, so always comply with the lowest allowance on any sector. What we have done in the past is to take the largest size cabin bag allowed on BA and check that on AA along with the 23kg bags. We always takes loads of luggage on trans-Atlantic trips, so unless you’re moving house you should probably have enough!
*I see @Froggee beat me to it! Great minds, and all.
If you get the biggest wheelie case permitted, you can get a fair bit more than 10 kg in as well!
Or as my father would have said “fools seldom differ”.
Thanks all, I think we’ll try and see how we get on with a 23kg bag each. If we (we meaning she) needs more than I guess we’ll have to take another bag.
We have 4 separate AA flights so I don’t want to have to pay 4 different times for baggage 🙂
But thank you all.
@Froggee, my mum says that, must be a Boomer thing 😂
@wookie192, you shouldn’t have to pay for bags on AA if you’re Silver, I thought this was the point of the thread?!
My old pa was no boomer given he was born in 1940.
@wookie192 get yourself a well made hold-all that you can pack in your suitcase and distill stuff into it as needed for the AA flights.
If you get one with suitable handles you could slot it over the handle on your big case and move it pretty easily.
That is what Granny Froggee would suggest (also born during, not after the war) and she is the most practical woman in the world.
Thinking about it she’s much more a great minds sort of person so maybe it is optimist/pessimist thing?
@NorthernLass you’re correct, I meant if we took 1 bag each that was 30kg (then we’d have to pay an overweight fee for each case with AA).
