So I may be able to change my return flight from MEX-MAD-LHR to eithe an AA one going via (pick a US Airport)
    or
    IBeria vai MAD

AA gets me in earlier with the Cx of flight pre the long haul.

IB cx of flight is post long haul

Wait times for Cx’s can be similar

So Pros and cons of either carrier?

AA- I assume via USA would be a PITA (bags off\go through immigration etc?
AA cabin seating \comfort for a couple-Good\bad\average compared to IB?
AA Lounge at US Airport ??

    Decisions, decisions

And if I get a USA flight I could travel Transatlantic with BA so another Business cabin option.

I think you are already on MEX-MAD-LHR ?

I’m not sure that the cancellation of the SH connection MAD-LHR will allow you to change the intermediate route point but without knowing what BA will offer … or how it is interpreting it’s current rules only having had the phone call will you know

If you route AA to DFW or MIA you should get ITI with the luggage checked through but you will need to clear immigration and TSA security (I’d rate DFW much higher than MIA for this). Both AA lounges experiences are the same (DFW if you are in first has the slight edge).

If you go via Madrid your connection will almost certainly be T4S to T4S which will just require a very easy and friendly BP check and security scan before you go down the escalators from arrivals to departures.

I know which one I’d do and it avoids the US

If you want commentary on the plane types which will likely be offered I can add that

Also remember that if needed – let’s hope not – EU/UK 261 won’t apply to AA flights originating outside of EU/UK

    Thanks for the reply.

I’m just weighing up the options that may be offered when I ring up. Don’t want to miss out on a percieved “better” trip LOL

    Will be appreciated. Thanks
Both of us are not very tall or wide if that makes a difference. LOL

We’ve travelled IB and BA business in the past but never AA.

If we connect via DFW I think BA is an option Trans Atlantic

TBH given the very low number of flights that ever require compo or duty of care is only around 2% of all flights that are covered by the 261 remit personally I don’t factor it into my decision making on who to fly with but others may regard that as more important than prove or schedule or onboard service,

Out of the dozens of ex USA flights I’ve done only 1 came close to the minimum 3 hours for compo to kick in and even then it wouldn’t have applied as it was weather related.

I’ve not flown IB but I have flown AA and do rate them. Depending on the US gateway involved you may get access to a flagship lounge which are way better than any admirals club. There is a list of locations on the AA website.
