Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Accidentally renewed Avios subscription….

Thought it renewed at the end of today, but sneakily they did it at 6am. I realise I can cancel within 14 days, but now wondering as still at old renewal of £1789 for 200k (x2). Given we usually have 2x AMEX 241 and Barclays upgrade vouchers, I tempted to let it ride even though we have 1.1m already – probably spend around 300k/year.

Am a little worried about Avios being devalued, but since the changes it seems that most tickets are rewarding much fewer Avios than the previous system.

Thoughts?? We just got 2x Club LHR<->JFK for 170k (AMEX 241) + £800 which is crazy good value @ 0.9ppp.

Mine renewed at 0830 this morning. My subscription is only for 50,000. I had contemplated cancelling subscription, as worried about devaluation too and was going to make a decision today. We have got very few for flying recently as all our flights have been Avios including two CW returns recently to the US. At the moment we still have 2 vouchers and around 400k, which we want to use for long haul, once I’ve worked out how to use them in the most economical way. So will probably continue just for this year.

The amount of avios issued per flight has not changed as part of the TP changes.

I think it depends on where you want to go.

Availability to US is good. So if you like US avios is a good investment, going East another matter.

    I’m in two minds

Oops. Sorry. Probably just been booking Avios flights so not earning..

I’m with @LD27 – 4 Club Europe flights this month, but all via Avios so still on 13 TP 😏 Booked LHR/JFK Club only a week in advance so yes definitely availability on busy routes. For me the key to good Avios use is to be flexible on dates/routes – and have a few vouchers up your sleeve!

Might stick with 2x 200k and then see how fast my wife can spend them this year!! Hopefully BA will hint on the “direction of travel” (pun sorry) with Avios over the year if they revise their boost/subscription rates.

I’m on the same plan as you and I let mine renew last weekend as I don’t accumulate enough Avios in other ways to use my 241 vouchers and I feel I still get good value.

If you chose to not renew and spent a year or two running down your pot of miles you would then have to pay the prevailing subscription price which would be more expensive. At least by keeping it running you lock in the original price (until they decide to put that up)!

What can I say – it’s an excuse for a few long-haul trips in F/J. Don’t often pay cash (personally) for such, but it’s so hugely discounted with Avios/241 it would be criminal not to!

As said in another post, found plenty of last minute CE Avios availability – not the cheapest of Avios spend, but again compared to last-minute cash fares is usually closer to the “cheapest” advance CE fares. Or if like me you just choose to spend a few extra days on holiday you can get a new flight at reasonable cost!
