I have a £100 voucher to spend with BA holidays and a decent Avios stash. I’m planning on booking a flight and hotel for myself in business and then manually booking the same flight in business for someone to join me.
Most destinations charge the same per hotel room for 2 people as 1. Therefore, if I book the BA holidays for myself, book the separate flight for person 2, can I just contact the hotel and just say someone will be joining me? Will there be any issues with this based on most hotels charging the same? I’m looking at Istanbul specifically.
The only thing is I have no BA status so am concerned we won’t be able to sit together as they’re on different bookings.
Not usually a problem.
If there are any fees / charges based on the number of people in a room you’d be expected to pay those locally.
I have just done the same on a BA holiday to Egypt. I tried contacting the hotel direct and they were unresponsive to emails. To avoid confusion / arguements I just changed the hotel booking with BA to add the second person and booked his flight myself. BA charged me £100 change fee. I was a bit upset I had to do this but at least I have peace of mind.
I’ve done this several times, no need to pay a change fee (sorry, @paulgO). There was a long discussion about it on the chat thread the other day, but there may also be something in the BA Holidays threads, which are still accesible.
I don’t find not sitting together an issue, but you can pay for seats if it’s a deal breaker.
Sorry I didn’t expain very well what I have done. I added the extra person to the room through BA. It’s an all inclusive resort so obviously a price difference. I couldn’t get any response from the hotel direct and I wasn’t comfortable turning up without having prebooked the change and being at their mercy for the extra charges.
The extra flight i just booked myself. I’m travelling business class for the additional tier points and my mate is going in the back lol.
Ah right, yes probably the best course of action on an AI!
