Forums Payment cards American Express Advice on whether to delay getting the 241 voucher for a few months

    Hi,
I’m new to earning points and looking for advice please. I have the BAPP card and not far off from earning the 241 voucher. I don’t plan on using this for at least another 12 months so I was wondering if the following sounds like a reasonable plan.
We are a family of 4 and would like to try and get 2 companion vouchers so we can all travel together. If I delay reaching the £15000 target to trigger my 241 by 6 months, can we then apply for a new card for my husband and start working towards getting a voucher for him too?
If so, can we then book flights using his voucher and mine so all 4 of us can benefit?
    TIA

In my view your best strategy is to delay triggering your voucher until shortly before the end of your BAPP year.

Then put as much spend as you can as quickly as you can in the new year. This will result in two vouchers which can be used together to book all four of you on one PNR. This will make things like seat selection simpler. If one of you is silver then you can book seats for all. Or if one of you is a child BA will sit you all together.

You can also refer your husband and have him follow the same strategy (if you can put £30k on Amex between the two of you in a year).

Ideally you would get him going approx one year after you. The result would be each year, one of you would trigger the second of two vouchers allowing all four of you to book together. So one flight for four each year using a 241.

Booking with one voucher from each of you is sub optimal. Some are fine with it and I have done it before but it is your call whether you are happy doing this. If you are super unlucky and the flight is cancelled or disrupted you could end up being split up which would suck. Unlikely but not ideal!

    Thanks, that’s really helpful.
