Aer Lingus upgrade with Avios – Has anyone been successful?

Hey folks

I’ve booked a flight for January 2023 (Dublin to Toronto), was looking to upgrade to Business Class using my Avios points but after waiting 2 weeks for a reply I’ve been told that they’ve “used the AerClub allocation of upgrades on this flight”.

I’m going to see if I can change the flight dates and try again (I’m flexible on dates), but before I do, has anyone been successful in upgrading an Aer Lingus flight in this way? I’m really surprised they’ve run out of upgrades 8 months in advance?

You’re competing against people like me with Aer Club elite status who get 4 upgrade vouchers per year at Concierge level and 1 upgrade voucher at Platinum level – and they will take precedence in the very manual email-based upgrade process. SFO and LAX have always been like hen’s teeth.
