Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Aeromexico redemptions with Virgin Points

I need to book some internal flights in Mexico and wanted to use Virgin Points but I’ve just come off the phone with them saying it’s not possible. You’re been supposed to be able to book since earlier this year, but months later it still doesn’t seem possible. Has anyone had any luck? Any other ideas as to how to book them with points? I’ve avoid and virgin points but no skyteam. I’d appreciate any advice! Thanks.

Sounds like they’re taking a long time getting round to it!

Have you looked at cash flights? They are normally incredibly cheap if you book well in advance and even offer a fair degree of flexibility. Aeromexico is good, Volaris OK but less good if anything goes wrong, VivaAerobús I haven’t tried but everyone says it’s terrible and the boards at MEX give a clue, Aeromar unfortunately didn’t survive long after covid and there’s a brand new airline Aerus that operates a few routes.

Slight deviation, so apologies, but which airline do you use to fly to Zihuatanejo, @JDB? I did a quick google search and only Viva came up.

We go with Aeroméxico and go Premier for the luggage allowance, ticket flexibility and to avoid queues at MEX. They will also check your luggage in from ZIH to LHR [but you must still go to the BA desk even if you have a boarding pass] which is good because it’s quite a schlep, particularly if you don’t travel light. Last autumn, for the first time, the ZIH flights were operating from T1 (same as BA, so a long way but no transit train, multiple level changes) although T2 is AM’s main home (and the much nicer terminal) but I’m not sure if that was just temporary.

I think it may be that they just haven’t loaded the flights yet as I can’t believe they have given up the route. Volaris also flies that route. Sadly, the lovely Aeromar was done for by covid.
