You now have to pay for seats for AirFrance business class (and presumably KLM) when you book via Virgin Points. just had it clarified via Chat with Virgin.
And I believe it is only FlyingBlue elites, not all Sky Team elites, who get free selection. My FB status expires end of May but have managed to reserve seats for free into the future on my AF flights booked via VS points.
I didnt get free premium economy seat selection on AF from ST elite on a cash ticket last year.
But then Virgin doesnt even give premium economy seat selection to its own silvers, which is absolutely pathetic.
Now, since when? I flew EDI-CDG a month ago, redeeming VS points which seemed to allow Business but not Economy redemptions.
Weirdly, assuming 1p per point, the redemption in Business was cheaper than the cash fare in Economy! 🙂
I was able to select seats in both directions without any problems.
I got free seat selection on AF short-haul J booked via FC but that was about 6-8 weeks ago; I think the changes are quite recent.
