We are looking for an airport transfer from Sydney to the CBD. UberX only covers up to 4 adults, but we are 2+4 (plus luggage)
Viator, Holiday extras etc have a range of options, but they are a lot more expensive than booking.com with the genius discount.
Our hotel booking was made with booking.com. I’ve seen a bit of bad press on here later about them, but does anybody have any experience of using them for airport transfers? I guess worse case, if they don’t turn up we go through the rigmarole of public transport. After a long flight I’d rather not however.
There’s quite a premium on the train from Sydney airport into the city. With 6 of you, taxi probably makes more sense.
(With 1-2 people, just take the train. Fairly quick, fairly frequent, and you can just use contactless cards to pay. You can always swap to a taxi when you get to the CBD if you need)
I’d suggest you just go to the taxi queue and ask for a “maxitaxi”. You might have to wait a few minutes but one’ll be along eventually, they’re fairly common. Should be no issues getting 6 people and bags into one, they’re normally 8+ seaters
Thanks, would a maxitaxi be comparable pricewise to pre-booking? I’m getting a prebooked rate of about £70 to go from SYD to Surry Hills
So 2 weeks ago today we landed in Sydney and was in a similar predicament. In the end we just walked out to the taxi rank, asked the staff to radio through a large taxi and within a minute it arrived. He said “it should be 70Aud”. When I questioned the “should be” part”. He said to me that I can fix for 80AuD. When I remembered some of the rates they were quoting online, I was satisfied to agree that amount, as we also had lots of luggage and required a car seat.
On the way back, I just asked the hotel to book us a large taxi and I recall that was around 55Aud.
Thank you, sounds like pre-booking might be more expensive then and that getting a large one was no hassle.
Was it a drama getting car seats? Did the cab have them or were they held at the rank? We’ll need a couple for my 6 year olds.
No drama at all. Told them we need rear facing etc, he put it on the radio and the car turned up.
I’m abit apprehensive with getting a taxi outside the airport as I know numerous people who have been serverely ripped off, but I wouldn’t hesitate to get one in Sydney. I may have paid Alittle bit more but compared to online rates, it was still cheaper.
Just one final thing, card in the taxi is automatically an extra 5% charge.
