So I just booked a trip to South Africa using Avios in Club World.
Paid 62500 miles and £730 cash using a 2-4-1 voucher
e-ticket comes through noting that the TFCs alone are £1144, which I feel is plain bonkers and completely off the chart.
I was contemplating cancelling my BAPP card but think i’ll keep it now…
The cash sounds about right, but the Avios sounds too low – isn’t it 90k/100k off peak/peak each way?
Assuming for one person return to SA, this appears to match the 3rd pricing option where the avios requirement is 150k + £700 cash (peak pricing) so using the 2-4-1 that halves the avios to 75k + £700 cash. Yours is possibly off-peak so avios is lower (not 100% sure what the off peak rates are) so it makes sense.
The bulk of the TFC are just spurious BA charges though. BA isn’t handing over more than £500 or so to third parties.
Absolutely – ba splits it out and admits that their charges are in excess of £850 with APD and Heathrow passenger fees making up most of the rest.
I upped the cash component as it made more sense for me.
And yes that was off peak pricing. 90k and £450 with the 241 was the default option.
