-
Hey – I’ve got 18k AA miles – not a vast amount but enough that I want to keep alive if it can be done easily / cheaply. Unfortunately I am not travelling at the moment.
Now the AwardWallet blog route is dead, what other options are there for keeping them alive?
I don’t think book and cancel works for extending AA points
there is an extensoive thread on this topic on the AA board on flyer talk. Have a look for that.
The quickest and surest way is just to buy some points (but this may not be the cheapest). Other routes rely on being given the points in good time.
Book and cancel works. I have done this many times and it always extends expiry.
Thanks folks – I’ve got a good few months yet but will look to book / cancel (are there charges associated with that?)
Will also have a gander at flyertalk

You could also try signing up for AAs Miles for Opinions scheme and do a couple of surveys. No cost involved. But I think you’d need a VPN connection so it thinks you’re in the US.
E-rewards – Free in terms of cash, not wonderful in terms of time expended but they throw a few bonus rewards for the surveys these days so it’s quite easy to hit the minimum for an AA redemption.

So I went down this route and booked ONT – LAS for 6k + £4.50
Cancelled it a few days later, and still waiting for the points refund. How long does it normally take?

Call them and they’ll be back in a couple of hours
Good news! Twitter worked. Just sent them the record locator and they’ve kicked the refund off. Took very little time to sort. Thanks @e14 for letting me know I needed to kick them into action 👍🏻
Points have already landed. Expiry mid 2025 now. 🙂
