I would like to book an American Airlines sector from St Lucia to Miami, that is showing as available on AAdvantage. I have a BA Avios account, and a business platinum amex card, but unfortunately American aren’t one of the travel partners. I had, wrongly, assumed that if AA were showing availability it would show on BA as availability. Anyone know a get around for this, or should I bite the bullet and pay for the sector with real money….
Unfortunately AA only make available certain saver rewards to their oneworld partners (bar Alaskan). AA makes more availability to it’s members for different points pricing than it can make to partners. You could wait and hope they make it available to other partners but no guarantee of course they will.
I would just add to the above, if you have the flexibility (and a Plan B), keep checking because availability does tend to appear 3 – 6 months out. I think a lot of Americans book AA redemptions speculatively then cancel nearer the time when their plans are confirmed.
