Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Amex £300 cash back on Qatar spend of £2,000+

I’m new to this forum, thanks for having me!
Yesterday, I booked Qatar flights to Australia for over £2,000 BUT I didn’t bother to check Amex offers on my card before I book because the offers are normally very London-centric and don’t affect me.
This morning I read the “Head for Points” daily email and it highlighted the offer, so I confirmed the offer on my Amex card and then did “live chat” to find you MUST click the offer before booking – no wriggle room from them at all.
So I cancelled my flights within 24hrs at no cost and re-booked with the offer in place.
I just thought it was worth mentioning to make sure and click the offer before you book – basic I guess, but a lesson learned for me to be more vigilant about Amex offers.

Sometimes they do actually pay out if you click in the period that the transaction is ‘Pending’ – at least with Visa/Mastercard offers. Did it myself recently when my wife unexpectedly went somewhere with an MBNa offer running.

Not sure if you can get away with this with Amex though so you were right to do what you did given the cooling off period.
