Amex Avios sign up bonus query on post-cancellation refund

I am thinking of booking flight tickets for year end on my new BA Amex which would also help me move closer to the spend target for the 70k avios. I plan to cancel my BA Amex in two three months, once I receive the bonus. However, there is a chance that this trip may get cancelled post I cancel my BA Amex. What would happen in case the money is being refuned? Since the card is already cancelled how will the refund take place? Will it affect my bonus or my reward points in Amex Platinum that a seperartely hold?

Nothing, your bonus will stay safely in your BA account, it wont be clawed back. You would be contacted by mail or you will see in your now closed account that you are in positive balance. You will then speak to Amex to get it returned via BACS or cheque. Thats it.
