Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Amex card for BA 241 reward booking amendment fees

    Hi all,

Can anyone clarify the rules on what American Express card is required to make the payment for the taxes for a BA 241 companion voucher reward booking.

I always thought it could be ANY American Express card, as I’ve used the Gold and Platinum cards in the past for the reward booking payment.

However, earlier this year we had to make some changes to our reward booking for NY flights and as such had to pay the £35pp reward booking amendment fee.
After calls back and forth to BA, the revised E-tickets were still not issued as the Amex card i gave over the phone was not accepted.
I was told it had to be the card on which the voucher was earned and in the name of the person (my wife) whose account earned the voucher.

Have they changed the rules on this??

Or is it because the amendment fees have to be processed with THE SAME card which was originally used for the reward booking?

The t&c’s used to say any cash element had to be paid with ‘the’ card, without specifying exactly what was ment by this. Then the term was changed to ‘a’ Amex card.

Making amendments, or anything where an agent is involved, always brings a greater chance of scrutiny.

Any Amex card is allowed to book within the rules, quite clearly so. Though in past my personal experience is BA have required amendment fees to paid using the same card that the booking was made.

    Thanks for the responses.
The reason I ask is that having earned our latest 241 voucher, I have used it to book reward flights for next Easter.
So my plan was to therefore downgrade to the blue BA card in the meantime as I can’t begin earning towards the next voucher until early next year.
The agent on the live chat told me that my account was not eligible for a downgrade but I could still cancel the card and receive the pro rata refund.
So obviously I’m hesitant in cancelling as if for any reason i do have to make any amendments to this reward booking it looks like it won’t be possible if I don’t have that particular card.
