Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Marriot Bonvoy

  • 1 post

    Hi there,

I took a Marriot Bonvoy card at the beginning of May due to the 40,000points increased bonus and the free night voucher of up to 25,000points.

I did receive the 40,000 points but never received the free night voucher.

Once I contacted Amex, they said I wasn’t elegible for the sign-up bonus as I already ad an Amex Platinum personal card. Once I checked the terms and conditions of the offer, they are actually correct.

What I am confused about is, why did I get the 40k points then? I am not complaining and will let it go but was wondering if anybody else had the same experience. Thanks

    Shhhh.
You did very well to get that elk bonus by accident. Am surprised you even phoned in. Advice on here, say nothing, and ask on here! Let’s hope they don’t take back that bonus.
Free night only awarded after you spend 15k. As soon as, it posts to your Bonvoy account. Then you can add 15k max points to use on a 40k night redemption, including your free 25k points award voucher. Hope that makes sense. Have you spent £15k yet, outside the £75 fee, that is.

Amex systems can take points away up to six months after. So depending how long you plan to keep the card you could be faced with a high negative balance.

What would they do about the free night voucher, if already redeemed?

Not award you a new one before you spend £50k? £25k to cover the issued FNC and £25k to cover the current/next year or anything in between depending how much you spent to cover the difference. Or put you in -25k negative balance.

I think the first option might be a possibility given that they already do that with 241 vouchers, i.e. if you get a refund from the previous year that takes you below the threshold you need to spend more in the new year. Voucher is still issued as normal, they don’t take it away.

However, no experience with Marriott card regarding this so who knows?

So it really depends on what your long term plan with the card is and how you want to play it.
