    Newbie question.

I’m just booking a hire car in Cyprus for a week and am I correct in saying that I don’t need to purchase the additional insurance cover with Avis as I am covered with my platinum card? I can just book the hire car with the standard cover included?
I’m getting confused as it says in place of where insurance is optional but you obviously have the basic cover included when you book a hire car.

    Correct.

What you cannot do is remove the minimum cover legally required to be added by Avis and which is included in the price you pay.

Jumping in here (hope you don’t mind) – has anyone ever claimed AmEx car hire excess reimbursement and what documents had to be provided?

Asking because I made a claim (which was paid out) under similar cover for an incident in UK and the provider (not AmEx) required the original invoice/receipt provided to the rental company by the repairer. I can see this as being problematical overseas – it wasn’t easy in UK!

You should always check the policy yourself but the last time I reviewed it the only part of the Platinum insurance that requires a purchase using the card is the purchase and refund protection.
