Seems Amex have partnered with Bluechain judging by the email i received from them this week. Anyone here got any experience with using it yet?
I’d never heard of them but it’s interesting that the fees are lower than Billhop! Hopefully someone will take one for the team and test it.
Thanks for the info. I’ve tried doing a little digging and I’m not sure if it’s only for SMEs?

Not sure that is the case as during registration you can choose “For me” or “For my business” and there is some blurb about “If you are registering a business” so you may well be able to use it personally as well.
Thank you for this.
The signup flow and payment flow is pretty poorly tested and flakey – signed me out a couple of times during onboarding & creation of the first payment, but it doesn’t *say* “You are logged out” – instead it just stops working or showing correct data as you click around the site, requiring a browser refresh to bring up the login prompt.
Interesting that they require the business you’re paying to be chosen from a list of companies – doesn’t look like you could (for example) pay a Sole Trader with it – but they appear to have ingested the entire Companies House database.
Their entry for HMRC is…suspicious. But it’s allowed me to add bank details to it.
Exploratory £100 sent (for £2.30 fee) to corporation tax account. Let’s see what happens. Right now it’s showed the payment successfully created, but I haven’t had an email and the “activity” section of the site doesn’t show it. Pretty poor.
There is an offer on my Business Platinum, spend £3k get 10,000 MR points.
Transaction has posted to Amex card…
…but not yet showing in HMRC corporation tax account
(IME this usually takes a few days, I think it’s still old-school BACS not FPS)
Unusually the Amex fee is lower than the Mastercard/Visa credit card fee
Any update on this @toopoortobehere?
I’ve been checking every day and this morning it’s arrived:
So, overall, cheaper and quicker than Billhop, but less polished and a bit of a pain if you have a bill from a provider that isn’t a UK entity that’s in their database.
Sadly, on the Amex statement today, the transaction has posted twice:
I’ve raised this with Bluechain support and they were very quickly responsive, but it adds to the impression of the service being a bit immature.
Bluechain support were active & responsive over the weekend and I have now received a refund of the duplicated transaction.
Anyone that used Amex Premium Rewards website previously will find the Bluechain website a breeze. It’s still a bit fiddly, but a million times better.
Adding a company seems to result in a companies house search but they still require you to manually enter the bank account details. That said I’ve done a transaction which posted quickly to both suppliers bank and Amex card. The requisite points also posted perfectly as expected.
Definitely will keep using this.
Does the 2.3% fee not wipe out the 1.5% return of an Amex BAPP, for example?
2.3% less highest rate of CT is about 1.7% so it’s negligible. Plus 102 MR points in my personal name is more valuable to me than £1.72 in my business’s bank account.
Doing the maths it seems a reasonable way for me to ensure I hit the 10k monthly bonus on the business platinum card every month.
Still lost on this. Paying an £8k tax bill costs £172 (“business expense”) via Bluechain for 12k Amex
You can’t use Amex to pay HMRC via bluechain, only visa / Mastercard and that’s 2.5%. Only works for me in specific situations as the cost per point is too high.

I can confirm that this is now the case – tried today and Bluechain have stipulated no AMEX payments.
Just found this company.
My Amex account manager suggested I try it.
However not sure if I ought to go for a personal account or a business account.
Is there any difference?
