Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Anniversary night voucher – limited to hotels costing 40,000 points?

  • 25 posts

After spending more than £10,000 in a year on my Creation card, I earnt two IHG Rewards anniversary night vouchers, which I spent at hotels that would have cost 120,000 points per night for points bookings. Creation suspended my card’s benefits, along with those of many other customers in October 2021 and I didn’t receive my anniversary night voucher in March 2022. I complained to the Financial Ombudsman Service and my complaint is ongoing.

To resolve part of my complaint, Creation wants to issue the anniversary night voucher now, more than 18 months after it was contractually obliged to do so. I understand that anniversary night vouchers are now limited to hotels costing 40,000 points per night, but there’s a possibility that this restriction applies only to vouchers issued originating from US-issued credit cards.

Any anyone please confirm whether recently-issued Creation-originated vouchers do not have this restriction?

They don’t – I’ve got 3 nights booked with vouchers issued following the FOS intervention where the hotel is 70k points per night. Another reader has the IC Bora Bora booked IIRC, which would be up there at 120k.

It’s the US issued voucher that is limited to 40k points.

Last year I booked IC Maldives using voucher which will cost 120k. Then was notified by hotel the room I booked was going for some refurb and free to cancel if I want to keep my room type. But my voucher was expired by then so they refunded me 120k points.

Greetings from InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort!

As we continue to create exceptional experiences for our guests, InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort will undergo enhancements in stages, during the summer months to come. We have thoughtfully planned these enhancements to ensure our guest experience remains uncompromised.

In collaboration with our Resident Marine Biologists and in our continued efforts to preserve our sanctuary, we will be embarking on a journey to transplant coral in our internal lagoon that is surrounded by our Lagoon Villas. This will create a natural habit for coral to thrive in our
coral nursery as we further support and conserve marine life. In stages, these pieces will then be transplanted to our active House Reef for a greater guest experience. In addition, the placement of shore protection on the main beach will reduce the frequency of sand pumping by up to half and as such, reducing the disruption to marine life.

    July 2022
We will be closing the Main Beach and Pool as well as the Pool Bar and Café Umi – our all- day-dining restaurant. To ensure that our guest experience is uninterrupted, we will be setting up Light House Beach as our Main Beach, with Bar and Restaurant orders available during the day.
The Retreat and The Retreat Pool will be open to all our guests, and we will also be serving daily Breakfast and Lunch here. The Light House will be open daily for Lunch and Dinner and The Fish Market for dinner.
Rest assured, all offerings will be in place, we are only allocating alternative areas for our guests. We will not be closing any of our Villas or Residences during this period; however, we will ensure to look at booking allocations so that impact on our guest experience is minimal

    August & September 2022
As we open our Main Beach, Pool and Pool Bar as well as Café Umi, we will then close The Retreat Bar and Pool, as well as all our Lagoon Villas and Lagoon Residences while we improve the environment of our internal Lagoon during this period.

Posted villa closure letter above. The hotel wasn’t aware about expired voucher after cancellation but refunded full points after a call.
