Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Another 241 query when booking a 50% off seat with infant

  • 111 posts

last night I booked a 241 redemption for an adult plus an infant, I was expecting it from the quote prices to charge at 50% discount but on the final page it changed to booking two seats instead and I now have a seat for my 20 month old (at the time of flying)

I didn’t want to dither and miss the seats so I just booked it happily accepting id rather have 2 seats than 0.

is this normal behavior, can I get it corrected without loosing my seat or did I do something wrong?

It’s still very early days for the 50% discount, but I assume that what’s happened is that you can only book for one passenger when you use it like that, and the system assumes you are using it as a 241 otherwise. You probably needed to call BA to book it as 50% off, or book for yourself then call to add your infant. I didn’t actually know they would let you have a separate seat for an infant though!

I think you’re going to have to call to sort it out and see what they say about changing/cancelling/rebooking.

Had my first helpful and productive call with BA in history, took an hour to sort it and she said there are often problems when adding infant seats. It might have been because I put my daughter in as Ms instead of Miss but either way we got it sorted

Excellent, glad to hear it – and thanks for following up, always good to hear about the resolutions when you get a good agent.
Presuming the BA agent removed the 2nd seat, refunded 50% of the avios, and then charged you 10% Avios + cash for the infant? Were they able to do all of this without cancelling your original booking (and running the risk of losing the avios seats)?

it wasn’t as simple as that but that is what she tried to do, at all points she was ensuring the seat I wanted to keep wasn’t lost, in the end she gave me the voucher back and enough points to rebook the 2nd seat that was canceled as an adult and infant seat while she held the original seat, once it was all done she cancelled the original seat too and cleaned it all back up, that was easier as the system wasn’t playing well with adding the infant seat to the existing booking.
