Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Any advice – Fee to pay, but no card!

    Applied to this shamples.
    £200 credit limit.
Uploaded docs (twice) – bounced back – said couldn’t see name – despite it plastered all over my statements.
Went into highstreet branch – they scanned docs and sent them off.
    Not received card
Now getting emails that my 1st payment is due on the 29th! I guess its the £20 fee.
Having reached a grand old age I do not want these jokers ruining my credit score.
    Any advice?
    Thanks in advance

If you don’t want to ruin your credit score, I would suggest being patient and calling to raise a complaint. They will resolve and at the very least refund you and compensate you.

Put formal complaint in. Ask for fee refund, and compensation.

I applied right at the start and my payment isn’t due till April 11th?

Just pick up the phone and follow the process. Your “credit score” can’t be that great if you’ve only got a £200 limit.

If it’s not the first Barclays account you’ll be able to see all of your accounts in the App or internet banking anyway, can go in find your account details and make a Faster Payment that way.

Andrew, thanks for your helpful comments.
My credit score is perfect thank you.
If I don’t have the card how do I register on the App?
If you haven’t got the card you can’t make the payment – as they have confirmed to me on the phone.

There’s no such thing a “perfect” credit score. Each of the three main agencies (Transunion, Equifax, and Experian) present a friendly number to their various retail users. Firms such as Clearscore use Equifax data and present their own interpretation. Lenders buy agency data to work with their own algorithms, they don’t use the agency’s score.

Not all agencies work with all lenders. Six of my accounts with major lenders don’t appear on any credit report.

If a statement has been produced, there must be an account. If there’s an account, they must be able to tell you balance of the account and the account details for sending a faster payment.

At the very worst Barclays have lied, as I suspect that you are more than capable of putting your name and address on a piece of paper, the balance you want to pay to you Avios Mastercard, a cheque for £20 and pop it in the post.

Andrew, looking at the comments on this forum I think you will find that the £200 limit was the default set by Barclays until they could verify income.

In all honesty I am not worried about a low credit limit as I will just dump the card. It was only ever going to be a quick 25k Avios anyway.

The inability to pay the £20 fee is more of a concern.

Not sure how familiar you are with reconciliations in a banking environment. Dropping a £20 cheque with a covering note will not get there in time (if at all).

Once again, many thanks for your comments

You shouldn’t have to do this but you can pay Barclaycard in branches, even with cash, I’ve done it numerous times.

They are a joke though, they reply to emails very promptly but just say that they can’t do anything as it’s not secure!
