I’d like to ditch our last BA Prem Plus now we’ve hit the 241 and wait out the 2 years to get bonuses again. But I will need to pay for multiple bookings using BA 241s in that 2 year period.
I know I could borrow someone’s card but no-one in the immediate family has one and I’m not keen on tapping up friends with “lend me your card, it’s just a couple of grand” 🙂
Are there any cards left that would not reset the 2 years? I thought maybe the Amazon Business AMEX? Even if that would work, not sure we’d be eligible as I’ve shut down my Ltd and wife is just a sole trader.
Any other candidates? The landscape of non-AMEX issued AMEX cards seems to have been decimated.
If your wife is a sole trader then she could apply for the gold/plat business cards or the BA accelerating business card. None of these affect personal card sign ups.
As Peter suggests, you should look at the AMEX business cards. Sole traders are eligible. Just make sure the primary card holder hasn’t held a card (personal or business) that earns Membership Rewards within the last 13 months.
Surely Rob’s article is still valid. Get Nectar or Marriott (or cash back I think) and you should be good for Platinum and BAPP, no?

There are no personal cards that don’t reset the clock. I’d apply for a Business card (although you can’t get a Business MR one if you’ve had an MR card in the last 13 months, personal or business).

What Rob means is that you won’t get the *sign-up bonus* if you’ve had a MR card in the past 13 months. You can still apply and be accepted.
The relevent point is this:
“Note though that you won’t be eligible for a Welcome Bonus award if you currently hold a Membership Rewards enrolled American Express Card, or have held one in the past 13 months.”
I have a basic Blue Chargecard that I opened in 2016, does not earn MR point, but with the solo purpose of maintaining the Membership relationship without impacting on SUB.
On a separate but linked note, with the Platinum Now becoming a Credit Card, there are no more Chargecard available for new UK customers?
Has Amex shared the reason of moving away from Chargecard model? Apparently even in US, whilst maintaining it officially as a Charge Card, they are inviting people to sign up to “pay over time”, which basically make them become a Credit Card without being called one
