I have recently booked a reward flight (331 days in advance to guarantee the seats) but was unable to get through on the telephone before having to leave for work. I therefore completed the booking online, obviously using more points than if I had used my companion vouchers. So far I have only booked the outbound leg and plan to book the return leg in a few days when they are released.
I have currently booked 2 seats in upper and 2 seats in premium with the hope that they will release more business class seats in the future so I can change the premium ones to upper as well.
Has anyone got any experience of Virgin applying vouchers after making the booking and adjusting the miles accordingly?
I have just finished a phone call with them but they said that this was not possible, which I find hard to believe.
I’m sure I have seen that this has been possible with BA but was wondering if anyone had done the same with Virgin. Any advice would be welcome!
There’s a long thread where another reader was also told this (the one about St Lucia),and it possibly depends on the amenability of the agent you get. They can certainly apply the voucher to upgrade a current booking so if you still don’t have any joy, how about using it to upgrade your PE seats if more UC are released?
You were really unlucky, I called VS to do this a couple of weeks ago about 8.30 am and got through straight away.
Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling this may have been discussed already but I couldn’t find anything using the search function!
I will be booking the return flights in a few days (probably 2 upper and 2 PE, as that is all they are releasing at the moment) so will see if I can get through on the phone and see what they say then.
Otherwise, I like your idea of trying to use them to upgrade the PE seat to upper when/if they release any more.
It’s not possible to apply it as “companion” voucher retrospectively. The voucher holder and accompanying passenger would be designated at booking, and each allocated own unique PNR. This seems to be the case since IT “upgrade”.
Your best bet would be to cancel & rebook with possible risk of seats not returning back to inventory, if you are set on using it as a companion voucher. Otherwise, you could use it as an upgrade voucher as mentioned.
