Applying 2-4-1 voucher after making Avios-only booking

I’m still a few grand from earning the 241 voucher this year and need to book pretty quick.

There’s availability on the days I want. Should I wait or is there a way I can book, paying the full avios required, and then getting BA (I presume?) to apply the voucher to the booking?

Just wondering…

Try to get the voucher? Prepay hotels dot com or travelodge refundable hotel stay? One off payment to energy or council tax? Supermarket guftcards? Fully flexible flights?
