Forums Payment cards American Express As we get nearer to the £10k to £15k companion target change….

I am pretty close to hitting the £10k target by the end of the month however it will be very close.
Completely unrelated (honestly) I am thinking about booking a holiday that will definitely tip me over the £10k limit.
    My question…
If I then subsequently cancel the holiday and get a refund after 31st October will my companion ticket become null and void?

Historically Amex have not tried to claw back the voucher once it is in your BA account. So you should be fine as long as it is showing there when you cancel.

If you are pretty close, why don’t you try one of the legitimate prepayments like Amazon topup or buying gift cards or Octopus topup etc?

I can think of so many things – Christmas shopping for starters!

If you get a refund after the voucher is issued, you’ll need to spend that amount on top of your next year’s £15k.

I am not worried about having a credit on my account in the event that I get a refund. My card year starts in July and so any spend between 31/10 and July is effectively orphaned and not getting me closer to a companion ticket if I have already earned one.
Once I have my companion ticket I will switch my spend elsewhere.

Thanks a good idea. I will probably go down the Amazon route as we seem to spend a fortune there anyway.
