Hello everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on how to travel to Australia in Business Class. I have 271k Amex points ready to transfer, 28k Avios, currently with BA and I have opened a Qatar account with 1000 Avios. I also have a Barclays BA upgrade voucher. We want to go in October or November 2025, we are totally flexible on dates, both outbound and inbound and also flexible on arrival and departure cities as we’ll be touring the country over about six weeks. Would it be better to use all of the points on this trip or use them to upgrade from premium or buy one seat in Business and use points for the other one? Is it better to use some of the points on this trip and save them for later potential upgrades. My preference is the Qatar Q suite but we are flexible on airlines. The more research I do, the more confused I get! Any help is gratefully received.
It’s very simple. Do neither and pay £1900 for a China Eastern cash ticket out of Amsterdam. It’s the best value option.

Qatar will do a MASSIVE dump of seats to Australia IF the Government approves the Virgin Australia stake and the wet leases, but we won’t know that until Christmas.
